Meet Martin

Martin is over two metres tall, and he'd trained on and off for years.

Then Covid took the motivation with it. Two years passed without a single session. Getting started again turned out to be much harder than stopping had been.

A back injury at work in May 2024 didn't help.

By that summer he'd found his way back to the gym on his own. But the food was still random — often a slice of bread and whatever turned up — and the training kept stalling in the same place. Years of the same 5×5, hitting the same plateau.

And his work makes all of it harder. He's a cable technician: weeks on, weeks off, much of it abroad and at sea.

He started in January 2025 at 120 kg. The target he set himself was 105.

The challenge

The plan had to work in places it was never designed for.

England in February. Sweden, then a ship. Three weeks in Singapore, where the hotel gym had no air conditioning in 35 degrees. The United States, twice. Twelve-hour night shifts. Airports, buffets, and a galley that serves what it serves.

A ship's gym that was a treadmill, a bike, a bench and a few dumbbells — and then closed halfway through the trip when the work started.

Four separate rounds of illness at sea.

And a Christmas spent working on a ship, with every temptation laid out and his form already poor. He came home in January six kilos heavier.

We kept it simple

We built a plan that travelled

Low-carb by default when there was no way to weigh anything

Programs rebuilt around whatever the ship's gym actually had

Squats taken off a bench press rig when there was no squat rack

Weekly check-ins that followed him across time zones

Training, nutrition and accountability — all in one app.

14 months later

27 kg down.
Most of it from a hotel room.

The log says 120 → 92.5.

He asked for 105 kg. He finished at 92.5

Under 100 for the first time he can remember

The sugar cravings that used to run him — gone

313 kilometres of hiking in January alone

His actual weight log, Jan 2025 – Mar 2026.

In June he climbed Norway's second-highest mountain. Six months earlier, he wouldn't have made the trailhead.

"I look at photos from January, and it's a different guy I'm looking at."

Looking back

Martin took over himself in March.

He knows what a bad trip costs now. He had one over Christmas, six kilos of it, and he knew exactly how to get it back off. That's the difference between a setback and a relapse.

He leaves with the thing that actually matters: he can do this anywhere. In a hotel. On a ship. In a galley queue in the middle of the Atlantic.
